POLARIZED LENSES

www.ibadb.blogspot.com

Sunlight is a non polarized source of light. Thus, the rays from sunlight are reflected in every possible direction, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, etc. When the sunlight strikes horizontal surfaces, the light rays enter the viewer's eyes at a similar angle. This magnifies the effect of horizontal light thereby impairing the viewer's vision. We call this horizontally reflected light as glare. Polarized lenses use vertical laminate strips to counter the effect of glare. The vertical laminate strips only allow the vertical light to enter while entirely blocking the horizontal light. Since, there is no continuous glare from the road, water or any horizontal surface, driver's and fishermen are offered better visibility. More on polarized lenses: how they work.

Polarized Lenses Benefits

As mentioned above, glare reduction is the most important benefit offered by the polarized lenses. These lenses also enhance the perception of colors and contrast so that the colors appear brighter and bolder. This in return improves visibility to a greater extent. These lenses also decrease the intensity of light entering the eyes. Thus, people with light sensitivities are benefited a great deal by using polarized lenses. This property of polarized sunglasses is especially helpful for people who have to work for long hours on computer. Polarized lenses greatly reduce the strain on eyes, thus minimizing the possibility of vision problems in the long run. Polarized sunglasses are also very popular as they offer better protection against light as compared to non polarized sunglasses. Polarized lenses for camera are also available which can enhance the color of objects in the frame as well as filter the light from reflective surfaces. More on polarized lenses vs non polarized.

Polarized Lenses Test

Polarized lenses are expensive than non polarized lenses. Hence, when you buy these lenses you definitely want to make sure they are authentic polarized lenses. How do you test whether the lenses you are buying are authentic or not? There are simple tests that will allow you to confirm the authenticity of the lenses right in the shop itself. Your polarized lens will most likely come with a tag or a sticker. Now look at this tag through your lenses and rotate it slowly until 90 degrees. At this point, the tag should appear brighter and bolder than it is. If this does not happen your lenses are fake. Another test is pretty simple, just get another pair of polarized lens and hold it at a right angle to your pair. The vertical laminates on both glasses are perpendicular to each other at this point. Thus, complete blockage of light takes place. Another test of knowing whether your glasses are really authentic or not is by checking the glare from horizontal surfaces like glass countertop, car hood, etc

computer glasses

So, What exactly are Computer Reading Glasses?
Computer reading glasses are basically special spectacles that help in reducing the eyestrain that is caused due to staring at the computer monitor. However, care must be taken while buying them because many unscrupulous vendors sell cheap tinted glasses as computer reading glasses. Hence, check out a reputable source to get your computer glasses.

These days you get modern and lightweight rimless computer reading glasses that are made of highly flexible stainless steel. While there are bifocals available, but for those who do not wear spectacles there are computer glasses which have a slight correction of +0.25 to +0.75, which helps to reduce the focal point just enough so as to bring about relief on the strain caused to the eye muscle. Plus, they have an anti-reflective coating, which helps to reduce the glare while it also imparts a slight amount of tint. However, if you do require reading glasses, there are single vision lenses that are low powered, which you could check out.

Design Factors for Computer Reading Glasses
While the design of one’s computer reading glasses is an individual matter, and there are lots of varieties to choose from, experts recommend the rimless, low powered glasses with frames that are ultra light, along with choosing lenses according to the requirement of each eye. If you do use reading glasses, then you will discover that while you use the computer you will require a lower power. The computer glasses that have the +0.25 to +0.75 correction, as has been mentioned above, are of the lowest power, which is ideal for the 22-inch to 30-inch distance that usually exists between the user and the computer. Most lenses of computer reading glasses have an anti-reflective coating on them. The best solution of course is to get a pair of computer reading glasses according to your exact prescription requirements as well as the conditions in your workplace.

The Anti-Glare Coating on Computer Reading Glasses
While the anti-glare coating does result in having to clean the glasses more frequently, however, it also improves its resistance to scratching.

The term ‘glare’ when associated with using the computer actually means the intensity of the surrounding light that is higher than that of the computer, which causes visual noise and affects the ability of the eyes to focus properly on the monitor. Computer reading glasses that have anti-glare coating on their lenses alleviates that by reducing the visual noise.

Computer Reading Glasses with Tinted Lenses
Tinted lenses are supposed to reduce too much of the blue light spectrum. Since there are no reliable scientific studies that prove this presupposition, and since just about any tint in the lenses will have the effect of cutting down on the intensity of the light and cause the pupils to dilate, leading to a depth of field that is narrower, experts generally do not recommend tint on the lenses of computer reading glasses.

Can Reading Glasses be Used as Computer Glasses?
Regular reading glasses are generally not suitable while using the computer, since the interpupillary distance can be quite great, which causes even more eyestrain and also induces prism vision.

The best way to counter that is to get computer reading glasses with suitable lenses according to the requirement of each eye as well as choosing the correct nose bridge so that the interpupillary distance can be adjusted appropriately.

Computer Reading Glasses with Progressive Lenses
Progressive lenses are usually prescribed for computer reading glasses. Then are generally more expensive compared to normal lenses, plus they need to be made very carefully, according to the exact prescription. These eyeglasses also need a period of adjustment for the user to get completely comfortable with them. They are usually not appropriate for made-to-wear computer glasses.

EYEGLASSES FRAMES FOR FACE SHAPES

Choosing Eyeglass Frames for Face Shapes of Different Types
Correctly choosing eyeglass frames for face shape, is a matter of aesthetics. One can enhance the natural beauty of a face or make up for the shortcomings with a fashion accessory like an eyeglass frame.

There are certain rules of thumb which you can follow according to the face shape of yours. The tips here will save you the trouble of trying out every eyeglass frame in the optician's shop! They will narrow down your search, significantly. Here are the three thumb rules from experienced fashion gurus, which you can follow while choosing eyeglass frames for face shapes.

Let your eye glasses compliment your best facial features.
Let the eyeglass frame shape be contrasting to your face shape.
Let the size of the frame be in scale wise proportion to the size of your face. For example, eyeglass frames for small faces should be small.

Ultimately, the choice depends on what kind of look you want to project. It is not so complicated. To every rule, there are exceptions and I am certainly not the last word when it comes to choosing eyeglass frames. You can might as well throw away all aesthetics to the wind and choose what you like. You are free to make your own choice! Still I hope my tips on matching the right face shape with the right eyeglass frames, will help you out! The tips are given according to the seven basic face shapes that are characteristic of the human race. They are oval, round, oblong, base-up triangle, base-down triangle, square and diamond.

Eyeglass Frames for Oval Faces
Out of choosing eyeglass frames for face shapes of different kinds, oval shaped ones are the easiest. People with oval faces are the lucky ones, as oval shaped face is the most well balanced in proportions. To maintain the natural balance of your oval shaped face, go for a frame, which is wide or wider than the widest part of your face. You could go for walnut-shaped frames which are neither too deep, nor too narrow. Alternatively, you have the luxury of trying out different styles, as your facial shape offers you a wide choice.

Eyeglass Frames for Round Faces
A round face is all curves without angles. You can compensate for inherent roundness of the face, by using rectangular, narrow eyeglass frames, with a clear bridge. They will make your round face look thinner and longer while widening your eyes!

Eyeglass Frames for Oblong Faces
An oblong shaped face is significantly longer than its width. This is often coupled with a longish nose and a long straight cheek line. You could make the face appear more balanced and shorter by wearing frames which are more deep than wide, with contrasting temples or a low bridge which will make the nose appear shorter.

Eyeglass Frames for Base-Up Triangle Faces
These types of faces have a wide top which tapers down to a narrow chin. The width of the top part of the face could be balanced by using frames which are wider at the bottom with light colors or even rimless frames.

Eyeglass Frames for Base-Down Triangle Faces
Opposite to the base up triangles face, a base down triangular face has a wide chin which tapers to a comparatively narrow forehead upwards. To make the forehead appear wider, one could try cat eye shaped eyeglass frames with heavy colors and detailing on the top half.

Eyeglass Frames for Square Faces
A squarish face is typified by a strong jaw line, coupled with a broad forehead. To make the squarish faces look more long and soften its edges, one should try narrow frame styles. Wider frames with less depth and narrow oval shaped eyeglass frames, are best suited for square faces.

EYEGLASSES REPAIR

Method 1
Scratch #1
Get an etching cream, which will be easily available at home improvement retail chains. After you get that before you start the repair, for safety, wear rubber gloves. The etching solution can be toxic.

Scratch #2
Apply the etching cream (small amount) over your eye glasses and spread it using cotton swabs on the scratches. Spread it on both the sides of the lens where there is a scratch.

Scratch #3
After that rinse the glasses with warm water till all the etching cream is properly washed off. Now you just have to wipe the glasses with a non abrasive towel. Voila! You have got rid of the scratches on your glasses with a type of eyeglass scratch remover.

This method is recommended only for plastic eye glasses, though. It would be better not to use this method on glass lenses as a part of eye care too.

There is another way for fixing eyeglass scratches, by using a substance which fills up the scratches on your glasses without creating a hindrance to your vision. It can be found in the scratch removal kit which you can get at any lifestyle store. Let's check out how to repair the eye glasses using this.

Method 2
Scratch #1
To begin with, clean the glasses, or rather the lenses for getting rid of hard dirt or grit. This will ensure that your glasses do not get scratches on account of that. Further, remember that you should avoid holding the glasses on the lenses. Hold the glass on the rim rather than the lens. This will prevent scratches.

Scratch #2
Clean the glasses with a mild detergent by rubbing the soapy water on the lenses in soft and circular motions. Using a soft cotton cloth wipe the glasses. Read more on fake glasses.

Scratch #3
Finally, spray the eyeglass scratch remover on the glasses. Take a clean cotton cloth and wipe that solution over the lenses again in circular motions which are soft. There- you are almost done with glasses scratch repair.

Scratch #4
Once you spread this solution on the scratches, the wax from the eyeglass scratch remover fills in the scratches and it does not affect your vision.
